Missions is more than a scheduled event. It is a lifestyle to which we have been called as Christ’s ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20). We should seek to proclaim the gospel in word and deed wherever the Lord might lead our lives. Having said that, we believe it is important that we, as a church, faithfully spend our resources (money, time, energy, etc.) making disciples of Christ around the globe. Currently, there are two areas where we send teams to minister on a regular basis.
Chimaltenango, Guatemala
Heucks Retreat Baptist Church has been sending a group to this area of Central America since 2009. Our team partners with other churches and local missionaries to use construction, medical clinics, and many other avenues to reach the Guatemalan people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Regardless if we are swinging a hammer or playing soccer with some of the local children, the Lord uses this annual trip to work in a mighty way in and through the church.
Winnipeg, Canada
This is a brand new mission venture that was born out of the burden that our church should be a multiplying community. Churches should be in the business of planting other churches. That is exactly what our goal is for the largely unchurched people in and around the city of Winnipeg. Heucks Retreat will partner with a NAMB missionary in Winnipeg that will help us plant a church over the next few years. There is still much that our church needs to learn about church planting, but we are sure that the Lord will carry us through if our heart for the nations matches His.
